This is a fun song from the movie How to Train Your Dragon. It depicts the scene where Hiccup rides Toothless for the first time. We arranged it for Sinfonia to be soaring and upbeat while working on new bow techniques.
Northern Lights by Alan Lee Silva
This song is a dark, contemplative work depicting the beautiful Aurora Borealis. The ensemble discussed form and symbolism within each part of the song. We hope you can hear the different aspects of experiencing the Northern Lights within the song.
Fiddle Funk by Randy Sabien & Bob Phillips
This is a surprisingly thrilling chart from the method book "Making Jazz Easy in the String Orchestra." As an ensemble, we talked about the form of a jazz/funk song, how to solo over a song like this, and expanding the musical horizons of our ensemble.

Notes from the director: Composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov wrote Capriccio Espagnol with Spanish Folk music in mind. In this work one can find long, soaring melodies, as well as vibrant dance rhythms. The violins in particular are often treated like a group of guitar players, plucking and bowing chords in rapid rhythm. After a melodious opening, Korsakov gives us five variations on a Spanish love song, after which we have a dance-like ¾ section which leads us to a brisk and jovial Finale.
Capriccio Espagnol composed by Rimsky-Korsakov, arr. Facile
Soloists: Atticus Sigmund, Violin. Atari Veldey, Harp.
